Dave Brown started in the mail room at Writers & Artists, and made agent within a year, at the age of 24. He then built a feature film department for the thriving television literary boutique, The Bruce Brown Agency. Dave then spent three years at the Genesis Agency, discovering and developing new writers and directors, including James Manos, Jr. who sold three feature film projects to studios within 2 years. Dave also discovered the script for SAW and went on to package and structure an independent film deal to not only get the movie made but guarantee the co-writers, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, a chance to direct and star in their creation. After experiencing the success of SAW, and specifically the creative and personal elements that contributed to the film’s success, Dave left the agency world to become a manager. One of his first endeavors as an independent manager was to facilitate the deal for the award winning Showtime TV series DEXTER, which Manos created.
Dave then spent two years at management/production firm Benderspink before venturing off on his own to found Sleeping Giant Entertainment. Sleeping Giant Entertainment was a full-service management and production company that represents writers and directors. In TV, they recently set up two pilots with HBO: STUD (created by Manos) and THE LINE (created by client Cliff Dorfman with Peter Berg attached to direct). In features, Sleeping Giant Entertainment has set up THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR written by client Adam Torchia at Universal Pictures with Marc Platt Productions and Timur Bekmambetov (director of WANTED), and ST. VINCENT at Occupant Films with Walter Hill attached to direct and Mickey Rourke attached to star. Additionally, Sleeping Giant client Jon Amiel's feature film CREATION was recently released world wide, starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly and was the gala premiere of the 2009 Toronto Film Festival. Recently Sleeping Giant was acquired by Artists International and Dave is heading up their new management division.
