A coming of age drama/romance following the trials & tribulations of a young Indian Elvis Presley Impersinator
Ash wants something more from life, something different from the mundane routine that consumes the lives of his family and friends. Ash regularly finds temporary escape from the real world, singing along to Elvis Presley records in front of his bedroom mirror. Ever since he could remember Ash idolized the King of Rock 'n' Roll. This is a story of how Ash's search for something more and his admiration for Elvis Presley became one thing; this is the story of Ash the Indian Elvis Presley impersonator. Ash is a UK born Indian teenager disappointed with the prospects that life seems to have in store for him. He is stuck singing in a traditional Indian wedding band. His future is being mapped-out for him by his over-bearing parents, and then there's the additional pressure of having to keep his white girlfriend a secret. One evening Ash encounters an escape route; an ageing talent scout, Billy Lydon spots Ash at a karaoke contest and recognizes his potential as an Elvis Presley impersonator. Billy takes Ash on the road; they tour Karaoke Bars and clubs across the U.K entering competitions. Ash is so successful that the opportunity of entering the Elvis Presley impersonator championships in Blackpool presents itself. Ash is faced with a choice: stay and endure the pressure from his family to conform to a traditional Indian life or go to Blackpool with the chance of eventually winning a shot at entering the world championships in Memphis Tennessee. Turning his back on his family, friends and his girlfriend, Ash flees with Billy. Ash does brilliantly in the qualifiers, he's a big hit with the audience, and finally Ash appears to be happy with his path in life but after a falling out with Billy, Ash and Billy part company. Ash runs away again but this time back to his family, and friends to start over, pick up where he left off with his girlfriend and carve out his own dream on his own terms.
