The Arctic ice pack is melting but never mind climate change and rising sea levels, what is going to happen to Santa's workshop?

In the North Pole workshop of Santa's elves, Archie, the chief elf is struggling to keep control as the ice pack melts around them and the workshop complex is forced to contract. Elves have to share space with other elves and Archie's wife is not pleased about that. Projections show that soon the workshop will disappear - and then what will happen to Christmas?

One night, Archie's problems escalate when a young boy, Peter, on a visiting survey ship witnesses part of the elf complex and he is brought into the workshop by elf security. Archie must figure out what to do about Peter as well as carry on dealing with the shrinking space, but while he is busy with those arrangements Peter is given an unauthorised guided tour of all the top secret parts of the complex.

The solution comes in the form of the elf boffin unit, similar to the Q department in James Bond stories, where the weird and wonderful toy and gadget ideas are dreamt up. The boffins, along with the quick thinking of Peter himself, identify the way that they can return Peter safely to his ship as well as saving the workshop complex - and Christmas itself.
