Scientists have discovered a common DNA found in dictators, pedophiles, serial killers and mass murderers. Riorden Bell, an assassin with a penchant for scripture and stories, is employed to eradicate this ‘conscience gene’, whether the subjects have acted on their predetermined disposition or not.
Armed with science and scripture, the world according to Riorden Langsdown Bell and his employers was becoming a better place. That is until one evening Riorden kills a woman and finds her four year old daughter with the same name in the adjoining room. With his own conscience preventing him from killing a child, Riorden decides to postpone her execution, takes her in and raises her as his accomplice.
Dorian Marr grows up to be a formidable opponent to the duality of scripture and the dichotomy of their cause. But with the gradual deconstruction of Riorden’s belief system, they now become the hunted. Riorden is eventually forced to choose between life and death for the young woman he has raised, but this time without science or religion as his support.
