Jacob Kessler is homeless and is estranged from his family after a tragic accident, and he wants to be with them again. After becoming affected by a radioactive substance with fellow homeless people at a shelter, he and fellow 'bum' Harland Maple, an ex-Wall Street broker, gain super-human abilities. Maple gains the power of clairvoyance while Kessler gains the power of regenerative flesh – and the possibility of a cure may intrigue them both.
