Not even the end of the world can stand in the way of settling an old score.

Synopsis:

When a solar flare lights up the sky and disrupts communications on a global scale, vicious inmate Garand Barlow is unaware of what the ominous glow turning night into day truly means. But he does know one thing: while everyone is watching the sky, no one is watching him… and that proves to be a fatal mistake.

Nearby in the small town of Ravensbrook, California, astronomy professor David Kaplan knows exactly what the lights signify. As he tries desperately to convince his colleagues that immediate action is required to avert a global catastrophe, Garand arrives in town fresh from a prison break with only one thing on his mind: David’s blood.

“Burn” is a fast moving thriller with science fiction elements that enhance the dark and complicated dilemmas its characters must face. The small town at the edge of its own grave; escalating global violence that hints at disaster; and the cat and mouse chase that drives the entire script as the temperature steadily rises to over one hundred forty degrees and the world descends into chaos.

“Burn” was intentionally conceived as a small budget screenplay with a big budget feel. Rather than focus on toppling skyscrapers and tremendous global disasters, the story is localized. It takes place in a small, fictional California town as Garand arrives on the eve of apocalypse to exact his revenge on the three people responsible for the testimony that sent him to prison.

With only three hours to spare as the night time side of the planet slowly rotates into the deadly sunlight, the cast of characters must outrun a relentless psychopath intent on killing them before Mother Nature can finish the job. The heat, tension, and fear caused by the visible wall of flames in the upper atmosphere slowly descending on the population of the town are what drive the story as the characters seek shelter and do whatever they have to do to survive.

You'd care if you were the one he was after... and that's what the story is about.

I've heard this argument before. "It has to be a movie about the end of the world, or a movie about a killer. It can't be both."

I respectfully disagree. Yes, they're two genres that aren't usually combined (disaster & chase), but that's the whole point... to do something unique. In the script, both elements are completely dependent upon one another.

nice idea, but people might not care if a killer is on the loose if the whole world is about to end.

I think to make it work, you'd need to either downsize how likely the world will end or increase the killer to something more.

Definitely a unique mix of genres and a fresh take on the disaster movie. Very interesting.

"Terrifying isn't it... when you realize the weight in your grave won't stop the world from turning?" Solid line. I like the mix of a worldwide disaster flick with a criminal vs. hero chase.
