Pure of Heart

Pure of Heart

Filmmaker: Andor Czigeledi

Medium: Film

Genre: Drama

Credits:

A playboy unwillingly gets in touch with God when he receives a heart transplant from a saint.

Synopsis:

Jake, a beer-selling ladies’ man whose hedonism hides the pain of a fatherless childhood, receives a heart transplant after coming down with a fatal disease, then finds himself unaccountably craving Mexican food, talking about God, and experiencing strange visions involving a solitary hiker in the desert. He encounters resistance from his sexy, superficial girlfriend, who is both pleased and made insecure when Jake sees beyond her physical endowments into her true nature. Jake’s sister, who is helping him raise his son, attempts to undermine his new interest in the mystical, as she never forgave their father for abandoning the family to embark on his own spiritual quest. As Jake’s visions become more insistent, however, he is forced to confront his own lack of faith as he becomes convinced that the floppy-hatted hiker beckoning to him from another dimension is indeed the deceased donor. This spurs Jake to embark on a cross-country journey from Venice Beach to the Arizona desert, picking up clues from his dreams in search of the donor’s identity. The quest becomes a race against time as Jake’s sister suddenly turns ill – only Jake can help her by finding the life-saving cure at the end of what is now a journey of redemption, culminating in a reunion with his long-lost father, who, it turns out, was good friends with a kind-hearted Mexican-Indian vagabond, a desert sage who died suddenly and took on the karmic burden of healing the family rift through this mystical means of reconciliation.

This is an interesting take on the spiritual meaning of following one's heart. Best of luck!
